United Nations Scholarships For African Students To Study In The USA, Canada, Japan

United Nations Scholarships provides scholarships to outstanding applicants from developing countries who demonstrate a need for financial assistance and applying for MSc in Sustainability or PhD in Sustainability at the United Nations University in Tokyo, Japan.

The scholarship provides a monthly allowance of 150,000 JPY* for living expenses for a maximum of 36 months for PhD in Sustainability applicants.

MSc in Sustainability applicants JFUNU scholarship provides a monthly allowance of 150,000 JPY* for living expenses for a maximum of 24 months.

For both programs, travel costs to and from Japan, visa handling fees, and health/accident insurance costs must be covered by the student. The tuition fees are fully waived for the scholarship recipients.

*150,000 JPY is the average monthly living cost for an international student without dependents in Tokyo, although this amount may vary depending on the lifestyle of the student.

MSc in Sustainability

The Master of Science in Sustainability program equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to solving challenges of sustainability. Drawing on an innovative, interdisciplinary approach, the program integrates methods and resources from the natural and social sciences, as well as the humanities.

PhD in Sustainability

The PhD program in Sustainability Science aims to produce scholars who will become key researchers in the field of sustainability science. The program takes an innovative approach to sustainability, seeking to promote a better understanding of the issues by incorporating global change perspectives, specifically those related to climate change and biodiversity.

Postdoc Fellowships

UNU offers postdoctoral fellowships to provide young scholars and policymakers, especially from the developing world, with a multidisciplinary context within which to pursue advanced research and training that are of professional interest to the successful applicant and of direct relevance to the research agenda of their selected UNU-IAS or UNU Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR) program.

Scholarship covers:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation fees
  • Cost of books (Book allowance)
  • Project and equipment expenses
  • Student monthly allowance ($1,500)

Eligibility

Interested students must have obtained a high school leaving certificate to qualify for the scholarship. Part-time students are eligible to apply for the scholarship only in circumstances where the applicant is able to demonstrate heavy career commitments or a medical condition that precludes them from studying full time. Students may be either internal or external students. Both international and domestic students are eligible to apply. (Any stipend award for international students will be subject to confirmation of a full fee scholarship for the corresponding period.) Students who hold another scholarship may apply. Masters/PhD student must work on writing their thesis full time (a minimum of 35 hours per week) for the duration of the scholarship (i.e. they must have completed the research stage).

The application form must be completed online or through the hard copy. The successful applicant will be chosen at the sole discretion of the United Nation.
